In her excitement she shouts out "Grandma and Grandpa!" She meant Daddy and Grandma. It is usually other people that mistake me for her grandfather.

We were paying for parking at the indoor football arena Saturday night.

"It's Tom," I said.
"No, not you, her!" she said pointing into the back seat.
"I'm Lucy!" the little ham crowed.
"Lucy! Right!I saw you graduate from kindergarten," the lady said' "What have you been up to?"
Lucy has been watching TV, playing in the yard, playing on the computer and dismantling the house.
I actually do things, but no one cares or remembers.

The things you see at Relay for Life

A life changing moment

I just barely got this moment and you have to listen carefully. Lucy fell down as she was walking across the stage at Kindergarten Graduation. She got up, waved to the crowd and said, "I'm OK!" Now, watch!

The big moment

Lucy graduated from kindergarten. It was a fairly long ceremony and the antsy girl did a pretty good job of staying in one place. This is the part where Lucy got her certificates. As usual, she approaches the moment with a little more relish than the other kids. Truth: Lucy finds the fun in every moment possible.




Lucy's teacher loves her. Lucy loves her teacher. We love the fact that Lucy had a great kindergarten teacher that loves her. Question: was every day like this?

Haters

I don't understand these people. Anyone who has a blog or posts videos or does anything public has run into them. Haters tell you, you suck or you're stupid, or you have wasted their time, when all you have done is make your product available. No one forces anyone to watch or read anything.
This morning I ran into some good natured response to the haters. I don't spend enough time on Youtube to be on top of everything so this might be a little old but it is new to me so spare me your hateful comments.

Caution: there is some bad language in these vidoes. It is used in the cause of parody and is not meant to be offensive. Sometimes you have to use hyperbole to make a point.

My doctor

So, I go to see the doctor (oncologist) who is very excited about my latest blood tests and not because it looks like he will get to make more money off me. He is excited because everything looks very, very normal. He is very excited until he gets down to my weight.
"The most common factor for the recurrence of colorectal cancer and breast cancer is," he says, "fat."
I kind of knew that and I kind of knew that I have been putting on some serious weight lately (the pants and the underwear don't lie).
"I want you to come to my office once a week and get weighed."
I'll do it as long as each time I step on the scale I don't have to cough up a co-pay.

German Food

The same day that we were in Columbus eating German food at Schmidt's Sausage Haus our friends in Germany were home eating, what is by default, German food. It looks familiar.

Relay for Life

If you are a regular reader of this page (and I know there are at least seven of you - Hi Dad!), you know that I spent most of last year being treated for rectal cancer.
It marked the second time in five years that I have gone under the knife for cancer.

This year I decided that something good should come of this. I volunteered to help out in the local American Cancer Society Relay for Life event.

I thought I would go to a few meetings and help with publicity.

After meeting with some of the volunteers I decided that I wasn't doing enough. So, I have formed a team and am now actively raising money for Relay.

I was talking with one of the organizers and she was asking me about my treatment. I told her that my chemotherapy was mostly a drug called 5FU (or Fluorouracil, but 5FU has such a better hidden message). She told me that 5FU was developed with money from the American Cancer Society.

That hooked me.

I formed a team at work, but because I work for a large corporation there are many restrictions in how I fund raise. I am really looking for help from my friends and family (again).
